Sometimes bad things happen to good people.
Sometimes good things happen to good people.
And then sometimes, the only thing better than when good things happening to good people is when very bad things happen to very bad people. Today is just one of these days.
The Independent has just reported that Jörg Haider, arguably Europe’s most famous and powerful admirer of Adolf Hitler, was killed earlier today in a (hopefully painful) car accident.
On occasions like this, I like to consult the social networking website reddit.com for user’s comments on the passing of an individual and, as always, reddit never disappoints to deliver a gem of a comment. This one coming from a user called “ours”.

“I like the small of dead nazis in the morning… smells like… victory.”

You sound like a Nazi hater to me.
Next (I hope): Ernst Zundl.
He’s not dead yet, is he?
Yes, that’s a little nasty. Wishing people dead or being happy people are dead is FAR worse than the ‘opinions’ of anybody. Reading up on him the most he is guilty of is a few ‘verbal gaffes’. Hell, Jacques Parizeau blamed the referendum loss on ‘the immigrants’. Politicians speak for people, as the article noted, as his views became better known, his popularity and power plummeted-4% in Parliament is hardly particularly powerful. So there is no reason to fear or hate a person whose views have little support. No matter what his opinions, there is a whole circle of family and friends and supporters who may have benefitted in unknown ways from him, and who are grieving. He’s certainly not the only politician in europe to be hard on immigrants. Far more frightening is the mention that the EU initiated sanctions against Austria for ‘voting the wrong way’-not much more supportive of democracy than the rest of the world it seems. However, closer to home, even more nasty is the blog-socialism is already wrongfully painted with the brush of violence, its hardly reassuring to any readers to say “Oh, but its a NEO NAZI whose death I get so much joy from”. Don’t you think people will wonder who else’s death would give a socialist so much ‘joy’? Bad taste post Paul.
Oh well, whatever, nevermind.
The article is a bit out there, but after all, this is flaming red webpage.
Fascists are assholes. The world is surely a better place without them.
Ptew.
Well, that essentially was my point. It’s one thing to be ‘flaming red’ and to be essentially correct, its another to take joy in death. There is ZERO evidence that this guy was a fascist (or any more fascist than any other politician, getting rid of all fascists would essentially empty out even Canada’s Parliament).
I’m hoping this is one of your tongue-in-cheek posts. At least that is what I will assume considering you have always expressed a significant level of concern for others on this blog. When you hold a non-mainstream point of view, it is a fact that you are held to a higher standard because otherwise, your message can too easily be dismissed out of hand. I’m sure you agree that introducing the uninformed to the admirable and desirable aspects of socialism is your most important goal. Once it is no longer demonized as the great boogeyman, more liberties with humour can be taken (as is the case with everything else in life). The post isn’t quite the equivalent of kicking puppies in the public square though.
RPJ – you are indeed correct, this post was intended to be mostly tongue-in-cheek.
Ah I see!
any opinion that isn’t hateful or at the very least unflattering towards the third reich is unacceptable, and anybody saying anything positive about some third reich policies is a foul creature, and deserves to die…
This logic is getting pretty old…
The first animal right laws EVER where enacted by the Nazis, so by association, that’s bad too i suppose… also Adolf Hitler liked German Shepherds- therefore anyone wo approves of german shepherds, is a nazi, and hence deserves to die…
what a filthy and raucous creature you are…
